Reigning Aryna Sabalenka Claims Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Honors.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second consecutive year.
The twenty-seven-year-old won four tournament victories – the most on tour – which included successfully defending the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth career Grand Slam singles championship.
A Season of Consistency
Across the season, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine finals, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also won the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the whole season as the world number one, finishing 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she became the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Statistics
Sabalenka finished the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and earned a record £11m in tournament winnings.
She received almost 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a new level".
Other WTA Award Recipients
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking extended hiatus after the arrival of her first child and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after starting the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and rising to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after winning their second Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five finals.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third time.
